I just feel like Edward Cullen and all the Twilight werewolves should take notes during this scene. THIS is how you behave when your animal instincts draw you to a person in a way that is both unnatural to them and unwelcome. You do everything in your power to leave them the fuck alone.
He ran away, but she brought him back, and they have lived and worked together in close proximity for centuries. Every moment of which is pure torture for him, but he never says a word, to anyone. Never complains, never hits on her. Snow hates that Bigby smokes - she’s always on him about it, which he does in part to cover up her scent, (which doesn’t work anyway because it follows him everywhere.) No matter how hard he tries, he can’t avoid the heart-wrenching pain he feels loving her and unable to do anything about it. They work together in highly visible positions of authority, and she’s not interested. They’ve been working extra closely for a while now, first to solve the disappearance of her sister - which she insisted on being made a part of every step of the way, though he begged her repeatedly to go back to the office and let him do his job alone. He’s not perfect. All this extra time close together and he couldn’t help himself and tried to ask her out - very badly. He’s done such a good job hiding his feelings and not bothering her, that, to her, it’s completely out of the left field blue. Then she’s nearly killed and Bigby is forced to watch over her during her coma and recovery.
His presence as her pseudo-bodyguard has put his own life at risk. She is being targeted by a hitman (girl) and now he’s a liability too. They’ve been magicked into going camping together so they can be whacked out in the woods where no one will find them. In her fear that, under the spell, they’ve slept together, she forces the truth of his feelings for her out of him. (Well, most of it. Ugh. Bigby’s an ass for lying to her about sleeping out in the woods, but his motives are mostly pure. He doesn’t want her to have to deal with that right now on top of being hunted by a killer, and he’d rather she not torture herself over something they did under a spell if he can help it - he chooses to bear that burden alone. And it does come back to bite him.) But even after all this confession, Bigby will leave and never come back if that’s what she wants.
At the end of the arc, after she saves his life with tears in her eyes, when all the dust settles, and she’s had time to think, Snow tells him she wouldn’t mind going out on a normal date. Because she is jealous of Beauty for exactly the reason he said, and though she doesn’t actually want Beast… she’s learning that there might be something to be said for the loyalty and devotion of the Big Bad Wolf.
